Hormones & Performance

Explore how testosterone relates to physiology, body composition, exercise and wellbeing.

Hormone testing for exercise and wellbeing

Hormones play an important role in normal physiological function, including muscle maintenance, bone health, energy, mood and sexual function.

Testosterone is particularly relevant to muscle and bone physiology. Levels vary between individuals and can also be influenced by factors such as age, health, sleep, nutrition, medication and physical activity.

Saliva testing provides a convenient way of measuring the free component of testosterone from a sample collected at home. A result provides a snapshot of your testosterone level at the time of sampling and can be used for personal education or discussed with a healthcare professional where appropriate.

Please note:A single testosterone measurement does not diagnose a medical condition and should not be used on its own to make decisions about treatment, medication or significant lifestyle changes.

Measure your salivary testosterone level from a single sample collected conveniently at home.

What's included?

  • Saliva sampling kit delivered to your home
  • Single salivary testosterone measurement
  • Analysis by a Swiss medical laboratory
  • Your individual laboratory result
  • Reference information and educational interpretation
  • Digital Persometrics report

What does the test measure?

This test measures testosterone in saliva. Salivary testosterone is associated with the free, biologically available component of circulating testosterone and is used in both research and physiological assessment.

Testosterone plays an important role in normal muscle and bone physiology as well as energy, mood and sexual function.

Why might someone measure testosterone?

Testosterone levels can vary with age and with a range of physiological and lifestyle factors. Measuring your level can provide additional information about your current hormone status.

The result can be useful for personal monitoring or as information to discuss with an appropriately qualified healthcare professional if you have symptoms or concerns.

About salivary testing

Saliva sampling is non-invasive and can be performed conveniently at home. Correct sampling conditions are important because testosterone levels can vary according to timing and other physiological factors.

Follow the sampling instructions supplied with the kit carefully to help obtain a reliable result.

Testosterone in men and women

Testosterone is present in both men and women, although typical concentrations and their clinical interpretation differ considerably.

This Persometrics saliva test is primarily intended for men. Where a woman has concerns about androgen levels or symptoms that may have a hormonal cause, appropriate medical assessment and clinically validated testing should be discussed with a healthcare professional.

Concerned about low testosterone?

The ADAM questionnaire is a short screening questionnaire originally developed to identify symptoms associated with androgen deficiency in ageing men.

It does not diagnose low testosterone, but can provide a useful starting point if you are considering whether to investigate your hormone status further.
